Why ONE game?
We propose one game as the focus of our Virtual Olympic Game initiative because:
– HISTORICAL RESONANCE lends Olympic legitimacy to the idea. The “Stadion” was the ONLY game of the first dozen or so ancient Olympic Games.
– SIMPLICITY is the most important operational characteristic when doing something so different. We want as many people as possible to understand the competition: players, spectators, sponsors, broadcasters, advertisers, and the press.
– UNITY of focus and effort is our core message: everyone – in all their diversity – will be playing and watching the SAME GAME.
– MOBILITY of application will enable us to inject The Game into every competition environment, from early school to the professional sphere, without change or re-training.
– ECONOMY of scale will enable The Game to be available to the widest possible player population. The costs of deployment would be limited to the requirements of only one gameplay and support environment.
– WIDE ADOPTION is more likely to be accomplished sooner, which is an essential requirement of a true global sport. Other sports may follow, but the establishment of a global footprint is a necessary first step.
– CRITICAL MASS is necessary to justify substantial support investment, from sponsors, broadcasters, and advertisers.
– DIVERSITY of players, participants, and spectators is more important than diversity of game alternatives.
– DIGITAL ENGAGEMENT and INTEGRATION are more efficient and effective. Data “network effects” are easier to create for a single game domain.
Why THIS game?
We have selected Racket:Nx because:
– It is UNIQUE and DIFFERENT FROM ANY EXISTING SPORT, HIGHLY ADDICTING, EASY TO LEARN, A FAIR DIFFERENTIATOR OF TALENT AND EFFORT, IMPOSSIBLE TO MASTER, GENDER NEUTRAL, and SUPERBLY DESIGNED AND IMPLEMENTED BY A COMMITTED AND COMPATIBLE DEVELOPER.
– It is a quintessential RACQUET SPORT, which is the largest category of virtualisable sport in the world. It is further the second largest sport category of any sort. Tennis, Badminton, Squash, Table Tennis, and many others are, together, second only to world football [soccer] in number of players and fans.
Those billions of people have an intuitive sense of Racket:Nx: hitting a ball with a stick toward a target, and doing it better than one’s opponent.
If one adds other “stick and ball” sports, like baseball and cricket, this group is by far the largest sports category in the world.
And because, in combination with the Oculus Quest, Racket:Nx can finally break VR through to the MAINSTREAM…
Why not “virtual” versions of existing sports?
We do not propose “virtual” versions of existing sports because:
– We strongly recommend that there be ONE unique, non-traditional game [see above]. Given that, we do not recommend any one of the existing “virtual” sports, as to do so is to unnecessarily risk alienating or estranging fans of OTHER sports that are not represented.
– Beyond that recommendation, there are very few sports [about 10] that have “virtual” versions of any sort, and their quality varies wildly. The limited number of such games inherently limits and fragments their participant and spectator audiences. Further, as we describe above [“Why ONE GAME”], to include multiple games of any sort at this point is to defeat the core purpose of this effort: to give one focus for the world’s participation.
THE SYMBOL
First, these are the times we’re in…
Second, our symbol [below] is at the intersection of Virtual Reality [“Virtual”], Sport [“Game,” “Home Game” and the Olympic Rings], and Society [“Home”].
Deeper than “Social Media,” we want to evoke Society itself… not just a “Social Network,” but SOCIETY… COMMUNITY… by using the word “Home” and using a universal, essential image of a house.
Plus, putting the symbol of the Rings on a very normal, modest house, instead of a vast office or arena, says ”This is something FAMILIAR and something DIFFERENT”… something NEW. Also note that the colours of “HOMEGAME” are those of the original Olympic Rings.
But it’s also something SOLID and SAFE… something SIMPLE… something NORMAL… and something GRAND.
Note the “Greek column structures on the sides of the house, and the classic Grecian roof of the Parthenon:
These are powerful messages to communicate when so much seems UNSAFE and ABNORMAL.
In a deep sense, we are sending this message:
“This is the NEW NORMAL, AND YOU CAN LIVE and PLAY HERE.”
That’s why the domain name is www.homegame.life.
LIFE.
